When to Plant: Pansies thrive in cool temperatures. To enjoy extra color in your containers or landscape, plant pansies up to one month before your last frost date.

Light: Sun to Partial Shade
Soil: Pansies tend to enjoy slightly acidic soils, thriving slightly better in containers than in ground in Kansas, but they can do well in most soil types.
-
Support your pansies with moisture if soil feels dry 1-2” deep or if you notice leaf wilt.
-
All-purpose fertilizer works fine. If planted in a container, fertilize every other watering. If in ground, fertilize once per month.
-
All parts of the plant can be consumed, but pansies are best known for the minty flavor in their flowers.
Be careful to only consume pansies that have been marketed as edible. Consuming plants from retail centers marketing plants as ornamental may have sprayed chemicals that are not rated for consumption. My plants are readily edible!
